It is no longer news seeing
people discussing president Goodluck as a weakling, man of no will, unprepared
president and or lacking charisma. All these are centred on the approach
Goodluck adopt in dealing with his perceived political detractors.
Most people analyse the faceoff
between Goodluck and G-7 or now G2 as a typical example of his inability to
handle his perceived enemies as did by our former president. Others say he
should have conceded to their demand in order for peace to reign. But to be frank,
how possible are their demands going to facilitate the returning of the
president in 2015? Which is the essence of politic in Nigeria; or is it going
to hinder him from coming back?
These governors want full control
of power in their states but also want to retain power to influence positions
at the federal level. This the presidency sees as a threat to his second term
bid. This is because his ambition and that of the G-7 is just like two parallel
lines that can never meet.
So the consequences of conceding
to their demands will produce the same result (opposition) to his presidential
ambition as not to. In fact, leaving them to go is a rational action on the
part of the presidency as they will clearly become opposition and be dealt with
as other oppositions. This in Nigerian politics……it does not have anything to
do with providing food on the table of the masses nor creating jobs….but
actions and effort to capture power by all means which will only be used for
selfish interest.
One commentator said that in
Nigeria, opposition political parties are fighting with all available power to
unseat the ruling party…..not that they have anything new to offer to the
masses nor do they want to do a different thing from what the ruling party is
doing; but just for them to replace the ruling party and to the same thing they
(the ruling party) were doing.
Politics in Nigeria is only about
plan to cease power, use power for self purposes and fight to maintain power….
It has nothing to do with serving the masses. God save Nigeria.
