Nigeria is the only place where leaders both political and religious, fraternise with perceived and indicted corrupt individuals. In most countries, when any person is connected to corruption case, he/she resigns from his office to enable free and fair probe into the case. Is only in Nigeria that one lead a team of people that are investigating him for alleged misappropriation of public fund? Indicted corrupt politicians never resign from their position for appropriate investigation to be conducted……even when Senate or National Assembly though may also be corrupt ask such person to resign, nothing is done by the presidency; instead we give them even high political position.
Current news floating on Nigeria political space now is why can’t the presidency declare full war on corruption? Just recently formal president informed the President and PDP national chairman of his decision to not participate in the party activities. This is because of the alleged enthronement of perceived corrupt KASHAMU as leader of PDP south-west Nigeria. This is a person that has been declared wanted for various corrupt cases by USA. Even if we cannot help them (USA) catch Kashamu, how can we celebrate such person and even make him our leader? It is expected in a place where things are going well for government to suspend dealings with suspected corrupt individuals until they clear themselves. But here is a different game. We make them our leaders and therefore encourage our future young leaders to emulate such pattern of life.
Since this administration came to power though inherited many security problems, there has not been any high profile corrupt leader that has been found guilty nor sent to jail…..rather what we have is declaration of Presidential Pardon to such people and shading and fraternising with suspected corrupt ministers (Aviation Minister) and government office holders.
Am neither in opposition nor in the ruling party, but just a scholar that advocate for good governance in the country. At least if Jonathan cannot do much about corruption in the polity, it is expected that he should distance himself from those that have been indicted in one way or the order as corrupt. This can help to boast his ‘Fight against Corruption’ credential in the eyes of common Nigerian.
